The face of the Buddha reflects eternal serenity, compassion, and wisdom. The Buddha has attained enlightenment, as symbolized by the third eye shining through the forehead of the mask. The mask represents the transient nature of worldly experience. Its form is suggestive of flames, in constant motion and change. As the flickering illusions of the world skim over the surface of his being, the Buddha turns his gaze inward to behold truth and inner peace.
